Ok, since I was just commenting about this in an unrelated thread (unrelated to aircraft on stamps, but related to Parcel Post), this stamp depicts the first time an airplane appears on any stamp anywhere in the world. It's the US Q8 - Parcel Post stamp, which had very brief use from (officially) January 1 1913 to July 1 1913. I say "Officially" because apparently there were some used in December of 1912. The rate was created for the use of "4th class mail", which were denoted as parcels.

Ok did I tell you I started a new Series US aircraft on stamps ... time passes so fast --- maybe some of you wont like it :-) I speak my mind. well it is my blog so I can :-) right... some lovely stamps though. and I like some of the trivia. And more to come -- the Pan Am Conference 1947 set is next. But have a look if you have time. plenty to read and give indigestion. I mean digest....

Hmmm pretty, yet still somewhat dissatisfying without the smoke trail and a missing wing of the plane they came from trailing in a downward spiral behind them.

Why is it we never see parachutes on stamps? No aircraft on this one for obvious reasons. They all bailed out. But there are lots of parachutes.
