I have been going through the boxes and albums that was left to me. I'm down to 9 boxes the size of photo boxes or cigar boxes. And about 10 albums. Lots of German stamps that I can only handle for a day or two. And we won't even go into FW's!
But I've opened two glassines today and they are WW. Looks like I'm Portugal, Liberia, Germany, New Zealand, Russia, Mexico. Not making sense why these stamps were all mixed up.
This will take me at least today.
So where are you today?
Happy Stampin' on this eve of New Year's Eve.

I think I’m doing what my be considered the philatelic version of organizing my sock drawer. I have stockbooks that are labeled for countries and topics which, over time, have gotten all mixed up and contaminated with stamps that don’t belong. Sometimes I’ll start collecting a new area but don’t have a dedicated stock boo for it si I say, let’s stick them in this one for now. Or, after a few days of working on the kitchen table and my wife has had enough of me taking up every square inch of space, I hurriedly cram anything and everything into the stockbooks. I’ve been reorganizing for 2 days now. LOL

Ted, that's what I'm running into with the boxes and books. Except, I start from the beginning of the book and Dianne would start from the back! So, when I think I'm done with a book, I have to go through all the pages to make sure I have cleaned it out.
From those two glassines, I have about 100+ stamps which 10 of them will require deep looking into. Crylic words and designs that have no country. These 10 will take some time.
So, it sounds like you do not have a Stamp Emporium? We actually have a "computer" room. One wall is for the husband and his desk, and the other three walls are for stamps!
Who else works at a non-designated stamp area?

Oh yeah, I’ve got my own stamp swamp and YT studio. Sometimes, though, I just need to spread out more. Also, I do like to work outside the swamp, sometimes, so I’m not neglecting my wife. 😁

What are FW's? I'm working on making labels for all my newly received stamps and getting them out of the pile in my "inbox" desk drawer and into stock pages so nothing gets damaged. After that, I need to start rearranging so all the topicals are stored together. As stamps get placed into a binder or moved from one to another, I also update an inventory spreadsheet that notes which binder a stamp is stored in. I have been going through the boxes and albums that was left to me. I'm down to 9 boxes the size of photo boxes or cigar boxes. And about 10 albums. Lots of German stamps that I can only handle for a day or two. And we won't even go into FW's!

FW stands for Franklins and Washingtons a series of American stamps for which there is one basic design of each, but many variations due to different watermarks, perforations, printing methods, and details in the design to to plates being re-engraved. A few are worth big bucks. But they can be tricky to identify unless you’ve really studied up on them.

Thanks for the explanation. My introduction post explains why I didn't know what FW meant FW stands for Franklins and Washingtons a series of American stamps for which there is one basic design of each, but many variations due to different watermarks, perforations, printing methods, and details in the design due to dies being touched up and re-engraved. CatnapStamps I hear ya, Deela. They hold little interest for me, as well.

For me the process of digitising my collection and clearing out my remaining unsorted stamps continues... Added another 500 or so stamps to my digitised collection this week... Sooo many more to go...

Are you taking photos of each stamp, scanning pages, or scanning individual stamps? Either way, it's very time consuming. Are you taking photos of each stamp, scanning pages, or scanning individual stamps? Either way, it's very time consuming. Deela ( CatnapStamps ), I have a process that helps speed it up quite a bit: - Scan a full stock page at a time @ 600 DPI. - Use PMGS Stampfix to pull out all the stamp images (and rarely adjust manually for those it couldn't get). - Run a script I wrote using PowerShell and NConvert to convert each image to a 600 DPI PNG for the main image, and a 35% sized version as a thumbnail. - Manually rename the images to the correct catalog code, year and condition and put it in the relevant country folder. - Run a final script to generate the database and update the website.

The PMGS Stampfix tool looks very useful. I'll have to play with it to see if I can streamline my imaging process.

At the same time it is extracting individual stamp images from a full sheet scan, it rotates skewed images so you end up with nicely aligned images. You will more than likely run into some kind of bump in the road while using it. Feel free to post your problems here.

I thought I would try it. it sounds cool... but sorry doesn't work for me. could not get past this run time error No answer required as I know this is not the forum but after getting through all the security and trojan horse security warnings and overrides needed ( I gambled it was safe) I realise I could have scanned and immediately filed for later upload to the Hipstamp database 50 stamps using Elements if anyone bhas got a simple easy to use guide that would help... maybe
