Literature is a major topical area of mine. Here I will post examples from my world literature collection. I will post the literature of a different country in each post, without repeating, and see how many countries I get. I will keep tabs in this 1st post, as I go along, so I don't inadvertently repeat myself.
China Lithuania Ukraine

Nikolai Gogol, author of Taras Bulba, which was adapted into a major motion picture starring Yul Brynner and Tony Curtis. I like this sheet, even though I normally shun CTO's. On this sheet, I like the way the pictorial cancel complements the subject. Ukraine, Scott Nr 725 (2008)

Simonas Stanevicius (1799-1848), of Lithuania, is best remembered for his Six Fables. Two of them borrowed plots from Aesop's Fables. The stamp depicts one of his originals, "Arklys ir Meška," (The Horse and the Bear). Lithuania, Scott Nr 647 (1999)
