one for today 31st December when in 1879 Gilbert and Sullivan's opera "Pirates of Penzance" premiered in New York, at the Fifth Avenue Theatre. Just one question ............ how did the cast get from Paignton in Devon England where it premiered on December 30, 1879 to the USA for the New York opening?

one more I hope you enjoy seeing.. 16th January as I write.. he died January 16th 1957 at the age of 89. Arturo Toscanini was an Italian conductor. He was the music director of La Scala in Milan and the New York Philarmonic, as well as the first music director for the NBC Symphony Orchestra (1937-54).

Toscanini was one mean S.O.B. to the musicians he worked with. Listen to him going at this opera singer (and follow along with the “lyrics” in the music shown.)

My sister sang opera in college, and she even said that while she enjoys singing opera, she doesn’t like to listen to it.
