hello, thought I would share this - perhaps for feedback thoughts?? I have seen a lovely set of stamps ( MNH I might add and with no reverse image) I want to add to my collection. there are in fact a few sets available for sale and this set is actually slightly higher priced than the others but a few bucks one way or another is not a concern. in fact I am happy to pay extra for a nice copy. but this in the description .. quote " If i have multlple mint items of this item in stock the same scan may be used if they are all very similar in design such as centering etc. Used items are scanned individually unless noted....." Yes the seller say IF I HAVE well how do I know. what will I actually get ... perhaps a set that is so badly centered for example??? of with grotty gum.. who knows yes I know... write to the seller if I want the set that badly.. well I did and no reply.. ok lost sale? or should I take a gamble?? ... the image shown was of a very nice copy yes I know there are lots of other points, feedback history, who is the person, their credibility etc. but like most they are basically anonymous sellers Michael

Hi Michael cddstamps, I must say that in this particular case I would check their feedback %age - if it's high (99% or more) I would expect that reaching out and asking for a photo of the specific ones you will get is not an issue - it is possible they haven't responded due to the time of year we're in (they may just be busy!) In this case my recommendation is give it a few days and send another gentle reminder. If you still get nothing, walk away. If their feedback is lower than 98% I would check their feedback messages, and if you see anything untoward walk away. Either way I don't think I personally would purchase from them unless I get to see a photo or scan of the actual stamps I will be getting. Hope that helps, Chris.

Or, contact them and ask them for a scan front and back of the one you will be receiving. If you purchase said stamp and you receive a different one, then send it back with them paying for postage.

For me, using a stock photo for newer issues, especially singles, is fine. But for better stamps or sets, no, I wouldn't even check feedback. There's plenty other fish to catch. If you want me to spend more than $10 or $12, show me the stamp you're selling.
And now that we're talking about showing the stamp....no. I'll write about my worst burr in the blanket in another thread.

I purchased a lot of stamps via mail order prior to the ebay days sight unseen by just going by the description.

I purchased a lot of stamps via mail order prior to the ebay days sight unseen by just going by the description. I did, as well, back in the days when the hobby was filled with stamp dealers, not junk peddlers. Back then, it cost money to place sales ads, so you had to deliver the goods if you expected to make a return on your advertising dollar. Now there is such a low financial barrier to entry, anybody can throw up any crap they want; there’s no marginal cost in doing so.

Well, that is confusing... I just bought an inexpensive US coil pair ...and it came with what looked like Cheeto finger prints on the front and back (not in the obvious photo listed)... ANYTHING can happen these days.

Doc,
It may LOOK like a Cheeto fingerprint, but that is one of the USPS cost saving measures for cancelling stamps. Have no fear...DeJoy is here!!!!!

Actually, Dr. Bravo, this comes down on me. If it is any consolation I was shoveling Pepperidge Farms Goldfish down my gullet at the time. That's certainly a cut above Cheetos.

LOL. anyone with young grandkids recognizes the indelible florescent yellow fingermarks from Cheeto fingers ( especially on newly painted walls, computer keyboards and door handles)... as a cancellation technique, well , I wouldnt put anything beyond the contemporary USPS..
Happy New Year !
