I started to collect stamps when I was about 10 or 11 years old. My dad collected mint USA commemoratives. I collected canceled world wide. It was a great way for my dad and me to connect through my teenage years. When I started college I stepped away from philately. In my mid 50s I returned to the fun of philately. Now I’m a topical collector: bees & beekeeping, musical horns, single-masted sailing, world national parks , Native Americans, Postcrossing, Utah, kites, and pipe organs & organists.
Do you have similar collecting interests? Do you know of related groups? I’d love to hear from like minded collectors.

Hey Steve, Welcome to the forum! I'm about as far away from a topical collector as one can get, BUT, the one thing to remember is collectors are weird! My only "topical" would be Rocket Mail (and also the only "world wide" collecting that I do). I'm a deep US collector, expertizer, dealer. But I (secretly) have a Lundy Islands collection as well. What's great about philately is that there is something for everyone!

I collect anything that might even resemble a stamp. I collect Worldwide/revenues/cinderelas/fakes/etc. whatever shows up. I don't really go looking for anything outside of stamps but I keep them when they show up. My topics are Cats on stamps, Sailing ships, coins/currency on stamps. I have many topics that I just try to fill out one page and let it go at that.
When I was in the Middle East on Peacekeeping duties with UN I accumulated and sent back home 25 beer cases of stamps (minus the beer) and I am still working on some of those boxes. My main collections are Canada, USA but I have some nice collection from Europe and other countries and my most prized stamp is the first one issued GB #1 penny black. Not because it's worth that much but because it's the first.

Hi Steve, Our interests overlap somewhat. My major topical interest is classical music, and another area I like, but haven’t really fully committed to, yet, but do set aside stamps for future organizing, are world heritage sites.
