In February 1933, a gasometer (natural gas storage tank) exploded in the city of Neunkirchen, in the Saar Region, causing great devastation and putting over 700 people out of a home. This cancel, when I first came across it on a forum, was called a remembrance cancel, for the event. The outer text says, "Use charity stamps." That would make it what I think of as a slogan cancel. Was this a common cancel to use in any city, and this one happened to be for Neunkirchen? Or were they created for and used for certain cities for which charity stamps were issued? In other words, is this truly a commemorative cancel (or remembrance cancel), created to remember the disaster, or is it a regular slogan cancel that happened to come from Neunkirchen?

Not a cancel collector, so take this with several grains of salt... but from what I have seen:
Slogan cancel is different, it is in a "box" to the left of the circular date cancel -- just like with traditional US slogan cancels. Verwendet Wohlfahrtsbriefmarken slogan cancels exist for other cities.
This particular remembrance cancel exists in 2 formats (disregarding specific handstamp varieties): Neunkirchen and Saarlouis
The Neunkirchen cancel was supposedly used from 1932-1934, possibly even into 1935 (although I've never seen example of 1935 cancel). That means this cancel was not specific to the Feb1933 gas explosion since the cancel was put into use prior to that.
I know the Saarlouis cancel was used for a far greater time period, including past 1935 -- I have seen 1935 cancel before). I could probably look it up if you need that info. There's actually a couple of really good websites for this, but pretty sure they are in German.

If you can provide the German websites, I'd appreciate it. I have a very good friend named Chrome who helps me a lot with my German. I've already bookmarked quite a few German stamp forums, but if you can recommend any non-forum sites, I'm interested.

The other website seems to be blocked by my MalWarebytes. Either it's gone under and someone else is using the domain name to redirect to another website, or it's actually been hijacked and being redirected. Either, way I didn't proceed and won't post the link unless this problem is resolved.

Ted Talks Stamps : Ted, are you in enough of a metropolitan area where there might be a stamp club (or whatever the Deutsch/e equivalent might be)? I'm just wondering if it would be helpful to try to connect and put down tentative roots with them. (Some are great, and some are "meh -- what was I thinking?") And again, my hat's off to you. I can barely go to a store in the next city over because it's too unfamiliar - lol.

Ted Talks Stamps : I can barely go to a store in the next city over because it's too unfamiliar - lol. I know exactly how you feel. I went to (but not “into”) a local stamp shop in Doetmund. 1st, it was a “coin and stamp” shop and all I saw through the window were displays of coins. I saw one tiny section with a bookshelf holding 2 sad looking stamp binders. Then, I went to the door and there were warning stickers all over it saying HALT and showing surveillance cameras. I figured it must be a locked entrance and the shopkeeper has to let you in or buzz you in. Looking through the door, I saw no signs of life within, which meant I would probably have to bang on the door to get someone to answer. And then what? Here I am with little to no usable German language skills. What am I going to say? So I walked off. LOL
