Hello, I am from NS Canada and am a worldwide collector. I collect just about anything that even looks like a stamp. (seals/charity/xmas/easter/etc) I started when HE Harris was a big name in stamps. Answered an ad in a comic and sent off my dime for a packet of stamps and approvals.
I was originally down with measles and quarantined for a couple weeks. I got in the attic and found a couple shoeboxes of on paper stamps. That was it for me and I was off to the races. Then came Harris and his US album. Then came a Canada album and between Harris, Gray Stamp Co in Toronto I filled in many of the cheaper stamps over the years. Later I got into bankers boxes at auctions and a world collection was born. So now I have over 300 albums/binders of stuff from all over. (or as the saying goes 'from Aden to Zanzibar") I hope to post a few pages or stamps here soon as I get the procedure down. I don't specialize in any one are and am the most general collector you will ever find. I do have a couple series I try to get as many of the varieties as possible.

My first "real" album was HE Harris. Thus began the long slide into stampfoolery.

You know, stampie83, I was the most voracious consumer of comics, when I was a kid (I would scour the neighborhood for returnable coke bottles and spend the money on comics - 4 bottles/book, and there was never a shortage of bottles to be found). But among all the ads for x-ray specs, life-size Frankenstein poster, and Burpee seeds, I can’t recall any stamp ad ever catching my attention. I, literally, had no conception of stamps as collectibles until the age of 19, while in the Air Force.

I think I know why HE Harris lasted so long. It was from all those dimes us collectors of the time sent and from the ensuing approvals. Ah for the good old days when you could get a packet of stamps for a dime. Now it's hard to find a single stamp for that price. I collected all through school and had a couple other kids that collected so we could trade back and forth our dupes. Then I joined the military so not as much time was spent on stamps but managed to keep my fingers in and kept the interest. Went to Egypt with the United Nations Peacekeeping forces. Found a couple venders in one of the markets in Cairo and picked up a few there. That's where my interest in Egypt stamps began. (then had 7 week in Jerusalem from Egypt)
In the old city of Jerusalem I found an old Armenian dealer in stamps/coins/paper money/etc. I picked up some nice Canadian large and small queen issues along with a bunch of other stuff. Had fun coming to a price. He worked with an old catalogue from somewhere. He would add up the prices, convert to Israel shekels, then to US dollars. I was more than satisfied with his prices and only haggled in a couple cases. Got some nice bargains and I think he was happy to get rid of the stuff that had been sitting there for years. He had so many Canadian Queens because his family was in the import/export business years before.
Then years later I went to Israel and spent my time on the Golan Heights and started collecting Israel issues. That's also where I started bidding on box lots from a dealer in Edmonton and he would send them to Israel and I would pick through the box and re-box what I wanted to keep and mail them back home. Over a six month period I send back 25 beer cases packed with nothing but stamps. (the beer stayed in Israel)
Those are the boxes I am still working on. (for about the tenth time) Sorry for being so long winded. Just filling in time till supper. And there it is calling . cul.
