Hi all,
I am looking for a web site that has all of the watermarks World Wide listed.
I just ripped, not viciously, a 2008 Scott's Catalogue set to pull out the watermarks, but wanted to make sure I didn't miss one of the countries.
Thanks for helping, Luree

There are both online and print resources, but most of the online resources are not based on the Scott catalog. Unfortunately, they are either not updated recently (books) or incomplete (online). By far the best online watermark resource was hacked and destroyed over a decade ago. Apparently, nobody (not even archive.org) has a mirror of the original database, and all that's left are sample screenshots. Why would anybody want to hack/destroy a stamp watermark database? I recall Scott used to have a paperback that illustrated all the watermarks in the catalog, but the title eludes me. Or maybe I am getting it confused with the Buxton Encyclopedia. Here are the books (both listed have Scott/Minkus/SG cross-reference): Buxton Encyclopedia of Watermarks (Buxton, 1977, 114pp) The Stamp Collector's Guidebook of Worldwide Watermarks and Perforations (Felix, 1966, 256pp) The incomplete (and not organized by Scott catalog) online sources: stampdata.com/datavalues.php?field=wmkstamps2.com watermark database hacked into internet shredder oblivion definitives.org used to have one for watermarks on definitives, but I can no longer find the page There is another online source that I will PM to you, as I prefer not to be involved in giving that site free publicity. k

Thank you so much for that information. I am compiling a "Luree book" of watermarks reference guide. It's a process and I know it will be incomplete, but I'd like to think I can gather information to add to my "book".
That being said, my book is the Scott's cat. cut up and pasted on notebook paper! But with me being online, it's harder to page back and forth. Rather have the watermarks right there. Same reason I have a chair with wheels, why get up and actually move 2 feet when I can roll there!
I check out the books. Found the Buxton book on eBay, 1966 for Close to $40 including shipping. Amazon has the 1977 version for $25. It's on my shopping list! I wish I could see the pages inside.

I might actually have the Buxton somewhere, although I know I haven't scanned it. There are very few new watermarks after the 1970s. And of course, nowadays so many are shifting to self-sticks.

If you happen to find it could you send me a scan of the pages? Just one or two would be great. Only when you find the time for that task. No hurry.

No problem, as it's out of print. I find myself scratching my head. I thought I had gotten one as part of a stamp lot, but it's not in my literature inventory list, and I haven't the slightest idea where I might have put it. Or maybe it was just one of my stampy dreams...?

Found the Buxton book on eBay, 1966 for Close to $40 including shipping. Amazon has the 1977 version for $25. The latter price is more reasonable. I typically see it for $20, but neve bothered to see how much shipping was. If you end up deciding to get one, PM me and I'll give you with the dealer/link.

Michael, yes, in one of the searches Colnect came up and I clicked on it. I didn't really investigate the listing as I was just looking for pictures. However, I planned on going back to see exactly what they have listed as to what I have. Thanks for that link.
K, I'm not sure what I want to do with a purchase of a book as it might have the information I already have that didn't cost me anything but time and effort. I might check around a little bit more for a better price. This is like the time I wanted an updated book of Europa Stamps from Domfil. Learned they were not playing nicely and there are no more books.

To be honest, I wouldn't buy it unless I saw it for $5 or less. It's just for convenience more than anything else, especially if you use Scott & SG catalogs regularly as it has a cross-reference. But it doesn't have a Michel cross-reference.

I came to that same conclusion. I have the materials; we know I have the time and I just finished the next part. Got all the countries recut and taped to the notebook page. They are filed in my reference book. All this so I don't have to move my butt anywhere!

How much the butt has to move is one of the major factors taken into consideration for any task. There's not much wiggle room in this regard.
