Who are the rock stars of the philatelic world you’d like to meet, either on the stamp designing side or the hobbyist side? A couple of years ago I was excited to know that Martin Mörck was going to appear at the Great American Stamp Show. The bad news was, I wasn’t able to attend. The good news is, neither was he. I would also love to see engravers Pierre Albuisson and Elsa Catelin. Then there is “Cartoonist by day; philatelist by choice,” and cachet maker extraordinaire, Dave bennettoons Bennett. I’ve known him on the stamp boards for many years. I hope to see him at a show, some time. Who are your rock stars?

Looks like I tagged Dave Bennett errantly. I thought he had joined this forum, but nope.

Ted, I will send an invite to Dave.
Just sent him a special invite. Hopefully he will pop over, soon.
I would like to meet the Hautman brothers. Either one or both. They were the artists for the Federal Duck Stamps. And also, I'd love to meet up with everybody here. I've known you all for so long and would love to get a cup of libation with you!

I’ve heard George Holschauer of Colonial Stamp Co on Stamp Show Here Today a couple times. I’d love to meet him, too.

I wasn't all that impressed with the miniature sheet celebrating him.... Do you think I'd hear him sighing at the state of the recent RM stamp calendars?

I'd love to meet the actor, Samuel West in person. He's enthusiastic about stamps (interviewed in Exploring Stamps), their usage (World Postcard Day video with Postcrossing at the virtual stampex), and even postboxes (prop postboxes aren't meant to be leant on).

Ted, you're my stamp idol. My other idol was Bill Weiss, as many of you will know. Miss him like a father.

He started collecting when he was a boy and introduced me to the hobby in my youth. When he retired, he got back into collecting. He's been gone now for 50 years.

King George VI - When I was about 6 I had measles and was quarantined for some time. Bored in the first hour, I got into the attic and found a couple shoe boxes of stamps on paper. Mostly GeoVI heads and some
comms. In that box was an old newspaper clipping stating GeoVI was an avid collector. So I figured if stamp collecting is fit for a king then it's certainly good enough for me. With a few minor breaks, I haven't stopped since. I probably still have some of those stamps. His collection was passed on to Queen Elizabeth II and now I guess it will be passed on to the new King Charles III Then later I learned that King Farouk of Egypt, US President Roosevelt, and a host of other famous
people were also avid collectors. So I guess we are in good company in this hobby. Enjoy your stamps. travel the world and forget all you problems. (at least for a short time)
