Full disclosure, I am not exclusively hunting MNH examples. Many of mine are used or unused with no gum. But when given the means and the opportunity I'll jump on a deal that cannot be ignored... Another passion of mine is Flight related postal history, I am always on the look out for historical covers...I have a couple in the mail as we speak. Outside of Canada, USA and France; which are complete, my knowledge and sources are limited to the "Airmail" category on various sites. I have an album of what I call "Global" Airmail stamps. One that consists mostly partial accumulation; onesies and twosies. My goal is to build on that.

Enough about me! Gosh I can ramble on. I dearly anticipate feedback and discourse from the good folks around here... Time for me to zip it

khj, One perfect example regarding our discussion above, U.S. Parcel Post. SC# Q8 to be precise. Only after purchasing a complete set of U.S. Parcel stamps did I realise that Q8 belonged in my Airmail album ( the meaning of life according to bluenose)... Now I have a section that consists of: Express, Overnight, Special Deliveries and Parcel Post examples in my Airmail album; separate but logical to me I guess . That is when I started to look all over the BOB section. Sneak peek:

Question: Does anyone know countries, besides France for example, that continue to issue Specific Airmail postage stamps or tags...etc. ? Bluenose - You no doubt know that Canada hasn't issued Airmail stamps since 1946. But for those who don't know our Airmail stamps now are nothing more than a high value (International rate) stamp. (current rate is $2.71 for up to 30 gm) and a little blue sticker that says "air mail - par avion) I guess they decided a specific stamp was no longer needed since just about all mail overseas and US is sent by air.
As for other countries I have no idea if anyone is still issuing them or not. Now you have stuck something else in my brain that I will have to check in due time.

Good evening, Above I am suggesting that part of my quest is to identify and obtain new "airmail stamps" to add to my collection and that is very true. I agree with the responses above, they (airmail stamps) are getting elusive and more complicated to discover. My main reference documents, for identifying potential new candidates, are the main stream catalogues that we all love or love to hate...me included. I find the cost of purchasing a "whole" world set of catalogues is prohibitive. I touched on how I rely on stamp selling sites and dealers to identify and prioritize items to be purchased. Which means that I am at the mercy of the dealers I wish to purchase from. In all cases, so far, the information I received (SC#, SG#, Michel#) is spot on. So no complaints here. Besides growing my loosely put together "global" airmail collection with new modern examples I tend to enjoy curating my classic era stamps. By classic I mean pre 1960's printed using a press and engraved plates. By curating I mean organizing my album (s) and creating, what I call, a "companion" document. This companion document contains information obtained via research. My goal is to showcase the stamps by providing historical facts, stories, anecdotes and even postal history in the form of covers. I am doing all of this in order to "pass" down the results of my efforts regarding this hobby that I am so passionate about. I imagine that a single stamp accompanied by some historical tidbits would be fascinating to some young collector to be. I have yet to identify the lucky recipient... I have seven grand-kids, the list is long. Okay! Where am I going with this? Well the research aspect is just as enjoyable to me as the hunt for the next stamp. So! where do you guys find such information? Is provenance important? is the name of the engraver crucial to a well rounded research package? Is comparing the franking price of an older stamp in today's terms necessary? What do you include or look for when researching a specific stamp? Good night Marc

Had nothing better to do for a few mins so I grabbed Scott Vol 3 - G to I just to see who issued airmails up to my catalogue of 2017.
Gambia, Georgia, Gibraltar, Greenland, Hong Kong have never issued any Airmail stamps at all. (I did not know that.)
Here are a few of the G countries and the dates of their last Airmail issue. Germany - 1955, DDR 1982-87, Ghana - 1967, GB - 2012, Greece - 1958, Grenada - 1975, Guinea - 1993, Guyana 1987-88, Haiti - 1982, Honduras - 2015, Hungary - 1988, Iceland - 1959, Israel - 1968, Italy - 1973, Ivory Coast - 1990.
My Scott only goes to 2017 so a couple may have issued after the above years.
Just from this little survey, it looks like not a lot of countries still issues Airmail stamps for that reason only. They have a specific rate and any old stamp will do as long as the total makes up that rate. For overseas rates, I just put 3 "P" stamps on the envelope and a blue sticker. Most of my traders want nice covers so I oblige when I can. No stamps with planes on them or marked airmail.

Does anyone gather background historical information regarding the stamps they collect? I mean, take a stamp in your collection and research its "story" and other information about it. How "deep" do you go in your search of facts?
An example from my interest, the stamp I use as an avatar. I read as many books about the Bluenose, and other schooners, as I could after purchasing that stamp. Many rabbit holes later I found myself at the shop where the ship was built...Lunenburg Nova Scotia. All this as an example...
